WHAT IS ALPHA?

Alpha is a series of eleven interactive weekly sessions that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith.  Each session includes food, a short talk, and a discussion at the end where you can share your thoughts. There’s no pressure, no follow up and no charge.

Whether you are new to the faith, deeply versed in Catholicism, or just curious about how the Christian faith answers the big questions of life, Alpha is for you.  The talks are designed to encourage conversation and explore the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal environment. No question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish.

There’s no charge to be part of Alpha, however donations are appreciated to offset the cost of food.

SEPT. "INSPIRING PEOPLE"

NEXT INSPIRING PEOPLE - AMAZING WOMEN OF OUR TIME

Thursday, September 14th, 7:00pm-7:45pm // St. John's Hall

Join Sri Lankan born award-winning author and SJE Parishioner Preethi Fernando for the next talk in our “Inspiring People” series.  It will be a storytelling presentation on "Amazing Women of Our Time And What We Can Learn From Them."

Wilma Rudolph (1940-1994) contracted Polio when she was five and could not walk until she was twelve. At the 1960 Summer Olympics she won three Gold medals  in running and became the fastest runner on earth. Mother Teresa (1910-1997) faced the good, the bad, and the ugly, and altered the lives of millions. Preethi shares a personal experience of visiting a Mother Teresa Orphanage in her country of birth, Sri Lanka. The first woman to win a Nobel Prize, Marie Curie suffered trauma and financial hardship throughout her life. Yet, she never gave up. She juggled motherhood and an amazingly prolific career in science.

Preethi's presentation goes beyond the life stories of remarkable women and highlights the extraordinary leadership qualities among each one of us, no matter how ordinary we feel about ourselves.  It inspires each and every one of us to unlock our own dreams and to not hide our light under a bushel.
