Year 1: From Eden to Exile
(Genesis to Maccabees)
In this first year of study, we walk through the story of salvation history in the Old Testament. Students will study each of the narrative books of the Old Testament in turn, tracing the covenant structure of God’s saving plan from the creation of the cosmos in Genesis to the victory of His chosen people over their Greek oppressors in 2 Maccabees. Students will gain a new appreciation for the significance and details of familiar stories like the Flood narrative and the Ten Plagues in Egypt. They will wrestle with difficult passages, such as God’s command to Israel to destroy their enemies during the conquest of the Promised Land. Students will also discover new elements of the history of salvation that bind the various stories together as a cohesive whole setting the stage for Christ.
