Open to all women, the Council supports, empowers and educates all Catholic women in spirituality, leadership and service.  The CCW at St. John the Evangelist is part of the National Council of Catholic Women, an organization of more than 5,000 affiliated Catholic women’s organizations in parishes and dioceses throughout the U.S.  Our recent activities have included: Providing altar and baptismal supplies; funding, preparing and serving funeral luncheons/dinners; setting up and serving receptions for church functions; helping sponsor a seminarian; providing workers for a community kitchen; and hosting the 2005 Archdiocese of Denver CCW Convention.  Membership dues are $5.00 per year and we have approximately 150 registered members.  We need YOU!

St. Lucy's Sewing Group
Mondays, 1:00 to 3:30 p.m.  //  St. John's Hall
Contact: Patty Estegard
We sew pillowcase dresses for young girls and women, and sew shorts for boys, and these items are then distributed to various mission locations, orphanages, and Native American reservations in the U.S. and around the world.  During the first quarter of 2014 alone, about 900 dresses were completed and sent!  Bring your own sewing machine, or use the ones we have available.  If you would prefer to work on your own at home, kits are available.  If you don’t sew, we always need donations of material, lace, seam binding, and old clothing.

Sweethearts of the Knights
The first Wednesday of each month, September through June, at 6:30 p.m. // The Knights of Columbus Hall
Contact:  Sally Schlautman - (970) 461-5077

The Sweethearts of the Knights were organized as an auxiliary to the Knights of Columbus Council 3434 for the purpose of lending support to the men of this council.   Membership is open to females over the age of 18 who support the ideals of the Knights (such as charity, defending the faith, and the sanctity of human life) and who wish to participate in Knight and Sweetheart activities. Dues are $12 annually.

The Sweethearts offer spiritual, charitable and social opportunities for the members, and assist the Knights with some of their social functions and fundraisers such as the Lenten fish fry, craft sales, bingo and dinner-dances.  The Sweethearts sponsor their own fundraisers to benefit Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Saint John the Evangelist Catholic School and the community. Some of their fundraising projects include the Soup Kitchen, Life Choices Pregnancy Center, Birthright, House of Neighborly Service, and Meals on Wheels. Additionally, the Sweethearts host the Knights Annual Father’s Day Breakfast and sponsor the Saint Gerard’s Baby Shower to benefit the local Birthright and Life Choices organizations. A live plant sale in May and a poinsettia sale before Christmas are also fundraisers they sponsor.
